Welcome to "Kyoto Kitayama"

This site describes Kyoto Kitayama area, which has been famouse for making "Migaki Maruta" or Kitayama
logs from Kitayama sugi, or Kitayama cedars (Cryptomeria japonica). "Migaki Maruta" has long been used in
traditional "Sukiya"-styled buildings.

Kyoto Kitayama area has also been famouse as a town featured in "Koto" or "The Old Capital", a novel by
Nobel prize winner Yasunari Kawabata. In addition, this area attracts many tourists for its beutiful and elegant
Kitayama cedars which are often found in arts by Kaii Higashiyama, one of the greatest Japanese artists.
